MY STORY
I know how hard it can be to begin a healing journey. I lived with chronic pain for more than 20 years due to injuries caused by broken bones, endocrine dysfunction, an allergic reaction that nearly killed me and trauma from both emotional and physical abuse. The standard medical model let me down and left me feeling like I was destined to live in pain and dependent on medication for the rest of my life.
I began my healing journey nearly 13 years ago and it has not always been easy. I had to learn that the body works in a completely different way than I was taught. Our bodies have infinite wisdom that does our will; when we are injured, our bodies will go into action to protect its self until we are ready to initiate the healing process. If we are unaware how to, or decline to initiate the healing process our bodies continue to “tighten”. I personally felt like I was turning to stone and had had enough. I felt desperate and was willing to try anything to help myself feel better. I rolled my eyes and went to my first Alternative Health session and thought “okay, whatever…” The short of the long of my experience is I never looked back after that first session. I have not needed to take a pill for depression, anxiety, pain or the like since.
I had a very long and rewarding career as a conventional therapist (OT), but I knew if I really wanted to help others heal, my journey would require a different path. This led me to studying Osteopathic methods: Craniosacral, Neuro-Muscular and Visceral Manipulation; very deep and profound methods to release trauma, tension and whatever doesn’t serve us, or in other words, what contributes to our pain.
I’m by no means an anomaly, it’s a common experience for those of us willing to trust our own bodies to do the work, to experience what seems like magic. My therapy is not magic but it can most certainly be magical. I put my whole heart into every single session I do! This is my passion; to listen intensely to each body to help others just like I was helped. I have spent the last 12 years studying and practicing to be the absolute best I can be for my clients! And, I look forward to all the wonderful years of learning ahead.
For nearly 30 years, Donna has developed highly specialized skills in helping many people find relief from pain and dysfunction. Advanced Bodywork was a natural progression for Donna combining knowledge of functional task analysis/performance, biomechanical modalities, Craniosacral and Visceral work to successfully relieve pain and enabling more normal movement patterns.
DBT brings a rich and seasoned approach to each therapy session, combining her history, experience and knowledge from real life rehab to provide Advanced Bodywork to clients. Recognizing that every person has unique challenges and preferences, Donna employs the ability to hone into each person’s particular needs, and understand that wellness is a process best achieved through collaboration, education, goal setting, facilitation, and treatment planning.
